Free Download of Beer Pong Isn't a Job Book

I finally had a friend who was able to pull the old hard drive out of my desktop which died with my only electronic copies of the book on it, and he hooked it up to my laptop and I was able to retrieve the files. I uploaded a copy of Beer Pong Isn't a Job? Finding a Career For Generation Y to the server, and you can download it for free. If you are unsure of what this book is about, it's basically my account of searching for jobs and internships during college. There is a chapter on types of entry-level positions which is business-centric so skip that if you are not a business major and even if you are because it barely scratches the surface of all available positions. I would have changed or removed that chapter if there was a second edition.

I don't want your email address, donation, or anything else. That's how free this is. Just take it and enjoy. There's also a download link to the right on the main page in case you lose track of this post.

Now that I have some time on my hands I may have to work on a second book about the first few years in the work force...

Beer Pong Isn't a Job? Will Be On-line Soon...for Free

Sales were slowing down a bit, and the content of the book is now almost two years old. I decided it would probably be more useful being available on this site so that you could search it, skip around, and freely access it. An updated second edition will not be released at this time, but I am considering another idea for a book that may be interesting to you young professionals.

So, as soon as I figure out how to get the content quickly transferred to a usable web format it will be available. For those of you who have sent emails recently requesting printed copies, I will also work on making it available through an on-demand publishing store for you and anyone else to purchase if you would like.

Thanks for the continued support, everyone!

One Year Later and Still Going

MyLifeMyCareer.com is officially one years old, and probably a little older since I am a few days late on the announcement. It's hard to believe that I have been out of college for a year and half now, and even harder to believe that I've worked for more than an entire year with no summer or winter vacation like back in my academic days. Time flies whether you're having fun or not, so do your best to put yourself in a position where you can manage working 5 days a week for 52 weeks out of the year (minus 2 - 3 weeks of vacation time.)

It's Been Awhile

It's been a crazy last month or so, and most of you are still just getting used to no course work for the remainder of summer. Unless of course you are taking summer classes to get ahead or catch up. Hopefully those who graduated with job offers in hand are relaxing and getting ready to embark on the first stage of your career. Those who have a year or two to go, I bet you are working hard to build up the ol' spending fund for next year on campus. I bet some of you are even building up your professional experience with an internship - that hopefully pays. If you're still searching for a job or internship, believe it or not you are not alone.

I started out my sophomore summer painting houses, and the business fell through so I began looking for internships. I actually received an interview offer almost at the beginning of June for a position that I had applied for months earlier. I ended up working for a medical systems and software company that my aunt worked for. It's crazy how things work out, so just stick with it and hopefully everything works out for you.

Anyways, I apologize for the site issues with the inconsistent layout between pages and some of the missing graphics. I was still having issues from the site migration which was ages ago, and finally had some free time on a Saturday.

I'm working on a bigger and better second edition of the book, and I'm not sure when it will be finished right now. The first book was great, but I want this one to be more of what I had envisioned for the first one. Using the feedback from readers, students, professors, press reviews, and publishers and editors who have read the book, I hope to put together something special. If you haven't noticed there were printing costs that were reduced, so the price on the book is now down to something like $10-11. I even saw a copy for sale on eBay for $9 and change. I'm just putting that offer on the table, but I understand if you are saving for school and not for beer money. Actually, I understand if you are saving for the ever costly social life, as well.

Site Update Nearly Complete

I spent half of my Saturday finishing up bringing all of the old posts from the old site over, finally. Sorry for the wait, and the slow migration on my part. They are all here now, though.

New Site

The new site is up, and I am still migrating content from the previous site so bear with me. The look and feel is more consistent with the cover design of BPIAJ which makes sense to me. Commenting is finally fixed (try it out and let me know). Hopefully I can finish the rest of this in the next few hours and we will be good to go.

I'm Honored

Among several emails from students with questions, I saw an email from Chimby.com which I immediately thought was spam. However, I did not delete it, opened it, and found out that Chimby is the "Career Advice Search" website, and that MyLifeMyCareer.com had been selected to be listed in their search engine of career sites and blogs. It's a cool site with links to many other cool sites such as quintcareers.com mentioned below as well as many career advice blogs such as this one. I like how they stress career advice, rather than just another career site. There's too many of those out there that pollute the results you get when googling for information to help you get a job or internship. Hopefully their site will be helpful to you, goofy name though. Catchy nonetheless.

And It Begins...

Since I was just starting out with the new site, I think I'll start it out with a blog and then build up from there as you guys need and want more tools. If you are unfamiliar with mylifemycareer.com, you're not the only one. It launched about a week ago, and this is the second edition already. I wouldn't call it a failure, but I think it was too much of a sales pitch for a book I wrote. This isn't about that. I want to provide college students (and anyone else) with any advice and help that you need with getting through college and more importantly launching your first career. I am simply a college graduate with a full-time job, and am taking a step back to help those who want to take a step forward. I was very lost at times in college and especially in the job searching, but I learned so much and am willing to share it all with you. You can comment on here, send me an email, IM me, GoogleTalk me, message me on facebook or myspace, and anywhere or anything else that allows us to communicate. Give it a try. In regards to my book detailing my last year and half of college searching for a job, it is finished and is loaded with good information. I will make it available to you by thanksgiving this year when you're ready for it.
